Milky Way Molds, Inc. was founded in 1998 by Catherine Failor, author of two books:

  • Making Transparent Soap
  • Making Natural Liquid Soap.

Milky Way Molds is a "virtual business" with no employees and no central location. Instead, its day-to-day operations are coordinated among four different businesses; this strategic business alliance is a very key ingredient to Milky Way's success.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at: contact@milkywaymolds.com

  • Artist and Sculptor Catherine Failor has been involved with almost every aspect of soapmaking for over 15 years: as owner of Milky Way Molds, author of two soapmaking books, and designer of all the Milky Way soap molds.

For Catherine, soapmaking has provided endless avenues for experimentation and creative expression, as well as an opportunity to meet lots of great people. She is a self-taught sculptor, and creates all of the Milky Way mold designs in her studio, located in Portland, OR.

  • Catherine's original clay designs are duplicated in urethane resin, then vacuum-molded by Howard Speelman. Both technical as well as artistic, Howard has been a wonderful business ally and friend, always there to help with problems and to offer innovative ideas which keep Milky Way growing. In addition to the 13-year old vacuum-molding business, Howard works in his glass-blowing studio and is in the process of creating a new company which will manufacture dichroic art glass.

  • Aindrea is lots of things: a great soundingboard and source of many ideas and inspirations which keep Milky Way Molds evolving. She's the friendly, helpful person you'll talk with if you call, and the person who skillfully and patiently processes the orders as well as the mountain of paperwork necessary to run a business.

  • All of Milky Way's products are warehoused, packaged and shipped by Brooklyn Hardware, a 10 year-old family-run business. Brooklyn Hardware is owned by Michael and Carol Grant and their sons Zachary and Asa; they take as impeccable care of Milky Way Molds' business as they take of their own. As Milky Way Molds has grown, Brooklyn Hardware has grown to meet the increasing demands. With patience, care and speed, they ship each and every Milky Way Molds order.
